The keto diet, short for ketogenic diet, is a low-carbohydrate and high-fat eating plan designed to induce a state of ketosis in the body. Now, don’t be intimidated by all these heavy words, because this simply implies a diet where you eat less bread, pasta and sugary foods (carbs) and more cheese, meat and veggies (fats) so that you make use of your body fat instead of carbs for energy production. The main goal of the keto diet is to encourage the body to burn stored fat for energy, leading to weight loss. Additionally, some people follow the Keto diet for potential benefits like improved mental focus and increased energy levels.

The diet varies from person to person based on targeted goals and specific needs and while there are various variations to it, the most common among them include:-
Standard Ketogenic Diet (SKD): The most straightforward type of keto diet which involves a low-carbohydrate intake, a moderate amount of protein, and a high intake of fats.
Targeted Ketogenic Diet (TKD): This one is for individuals who engage in regular workouts. It allows for a slight increase in carbohydrate intake around workout sessions to provide extra energy.
Cyclical Ketogenic Diet (CKD): It involves cycling between periods of strict keto eating and higher-carb intake. For example, someone might follow a standard keto diet for five days and then have two days of higher carb intake.
Now, while the keto diet has gained popularity for its potential benefits in weight loss and improved mental focus, it's essential to be mindful of potential side effects. Like any other diet, the key lies in moderation, balance, and individual customization. Before embarking on a keto journey, it is advisable to ensure that the diet aligns with individual health conditions and goals.
